Not sure what type of timber you need? Here’s some of our most frequently asked questions
What does tanalised timber mean?
The term tanalised timber is often used to describe timber that has been treated to preserve its longevity.
Is tanalised timber safe to use?
Tanalised timber is safe to use in a wide variety of projects. Unfortunately it is not always clear which chemicals have been used to treat the timber, so if you’re worried about using tanalised timber in certain applications, we would recommend checking with your timber provider and discussing your project.
What is sawn carcassing timber?
Sawn carcassing timber is a cheaper specification of timber and can be very cost-effective depending on your project. Unless specified, it is not recommended that carcassing timber is used for construction projects.
What are sleepers?
Using deck installation as an example, sleepers are placed between the ground and deck surface. A set of sleepers is useful in supporting the decking and allowing moisture and air to flow below it, which helps to mitigate the spread of rot.
What is CLS?
CLS stands for 'Canadian Lumber Standard' and was originally manufactured for use in building timber framed houses. Nowadays, CLS is frequently used as framing for stud walls and internal partitions.
