Paving for every occasion

Paving for every occasion – a round-up of what’s on the market

Creating a patio or installing a walkway can make all the difference to the ambience of an outdoor area. Whether you’re looking for traditional stone or hoping to create a contemporary feel, one of the most difficult decisions is what type of paving material you should use.

We’ve put together a round-up of the variety of paving materials on the market to help you make a more informed decision before making any commitments.

Porcelain Paving

Increasingly popular, porcelain paving has many benefits. Not only is porcelain amazingly flexible, but it has an incredible amount of strength, being highly resistant to chemicals and sudden changes in temperature. This makes it ideal for outdoor paving projects, including patios and driveways. It is also able to resist staining, mould and moss, making it extremely hardwearing and maintenance friendly.

Available in a multitude of aesthetically pleasing options, porcelain paving can be finished to nearly any style, including marble and wood effects. For more information on how to install porcelain paving, take a look at our top tips blog.

Concrete Paving

An extremely cost effective option, concrete paving is ideal for pathways and driveways as it provides a non-slip surface regardless of whether it’s wet or dry and is also highly durable. This makes concrete one of the safest materials for pedestrian and vehicle access.

Concrete paving is available in a variety of colours and textures. You can even mix and match slabs to create interesting displays for patios.

Granite and Slate Paving

Much like porcelain, granite paving is incredibly durable and hardwearing, making it a great choice for garden projects. Natural granite paving is available in traditional and contemporary designs and provides a luxurious finish to any pathway or patio area.

Slate paving’s highly durable properties, along with its intense colour range, make it an excellent option for creating attractive garden displays and features.

Natural York Paving

Flexible and robust, York Stone can be used for building projects, paving, outdoor areas and walls. It can even be used indoors due to its great heat conducting properties. Natural York Paving provides a beautiful finish and improves with age, enhancing both its character and appearance. Due to each stone being unique, there is a large amount of colour variation, meaning it can be used to create eye-catching effects.

Sandstone Paving

Sandstone paving is versatile, highly durable and easy to install, making it a popular choice for paving and patio projects.  Available in a variety of sizes, sandstone’s porous properties make it wet weather resistant and ensure that large volumes of water don’t collect on its surface. This makes it a safe material for pathways and other flooring projects.
