Our Proud to be Local winner is ...

… the 1st Roffey Scout Group! Thanks to all those that voted for the group, it will receive £500 of funding from NYEs Building Supplies to help with a building project of its choice.

Since we began the Proud to be Local initiative in 2018, we’ve been overwhelmed by the level of support shown to the nominees. 1st Roffey Scout Group now joins a growing list of deserving recipients of Proud to be Local funding, and it’s heartening to see such a well-established organisation continuing to be valued by the community.

The scout group has existed since 1926, making it the oldest in Horsham. As a testament to its long history, the group meets in a hut that was originally built in 1928, and while it has seen many improvements over the years, it still requires occasional renovation.

Graham Maskell, Chairman of 1st Roffey Scout Group, said:

“This is truly fantastic news. It’s a much-needed boost to our fundraising efforts towards replacing the floor in our scout hut. We cannot thank NYEs enough for giving us the opportunity to prove that we are ‘proud to be local’ and for awarding us these funds.”

Rex Nye, Managing Director of NYEs, said:

“It’s great to see how the funding from our campaign is helping to make a difference to our community. Congratulations to 1st Roffey Scout Group. I’m looking forward to seeing the floor hopefully completed in the not too distant future.”

In addition to revealing this round’s winner, it’s time to nominate the contenders for the next round of Proud to be Local. Once again, we’re looking for community groups, charities and worthy causes to enter for the chance to win £500 to be put towards a building or renovation project. Send your nominations by email to proudtobelocal@dwnye.co.uk by midnight on Sunday 21st July 2019. The nominees will be announced next month.
