And the winner is...

Our Proud to be Local campaign set a new record this month – having received well over 2,000 votes for our shortlisted finalists.

We’re delighted to announce that the winner of the first round of this year’s campaign is…

Trafalgar Community Infant School in Horsham, which stormed to first place with over half of all the votes.

This emphatic win means a cheque for £500 has been presented to the school to help towards the cost of essential equipment upgrades and maintenance, at a time when local schools are suffering from severe budgetary restrictions.

Trafalgar took part in our campaign to boost its own fundraising initiative, run by The Friends of Trafalgar School, to raise a grand total of £40,000 for new playground equipment - as existing items are no longer fit for purpose. We’re pleased to be able to contribute to a worthy project which will provide the children with an essential outdoor play space for years to come.

Located in Victory Road in the heart of Horsham town, the Community Infant School is a three-form entry school for children in Reception to Year 2. Its values are focused on encouraging a love of learning - particularly through outside play - emphasising the importance of new playground equipment to pupils’ progress and day-to-day enjoyment.

Our thanks go to Horsham Sparrows FC and St Andrews C of E Primary School, Nuthurst, Horsham – our commendable finalists who also generated hundreds of votes of support for their work.

Our Managing Director, Rex Nye, commented:
“As a local business, we’re acutely aware of the issues our local schools are facing in terms of funding, and the consequences to facilities and equipment, which is why campaigns like Proud to be Local are so important.

“Huge congratulations to Trafalgar Community Infant School, and our thanks to everyone who took the time to vote for all three finalists. As ever, we’re touched by the dedication of local people for supporting vital community work and facilities.”

Three further chances to win £500 for the charity or group of your choice will be available this year so keep an eye on our social media pages and the local press for nomination and voting dates. The next round of nominations begins in April.
